Highlights from our very first community improvement project: sidewalk beautification and power washing along Westwood Blvd south of Wilshire!
#ThrowbackThursday to when the Janss Investment Company, a real estate company largely responsible for the early development of Westwood, had its headquarters in the 'Janss Dome' on Broxton!
The Janss brothers, who sold the land on which UCLA now exists to the state of California, are the namesakes of the famous Janss Steps between Wilson Plaza and the Royce Quad.

Fun fact: did you know that in 1925, the Janss Investment Company sued to block an African-American family from purchasing a home in Westwood (Janss Investment Company v. Walden)? Every Janss-built home in Westwood had the following restrictive covenant: "No part of said real property shall ever be leased, rented, sold or conveyed to any person who is not of the white or Caucasian race, nor be used or occupied by any person who is not of the white or the Caucasian race whether grantee hereunder or any other person." Food for thought!
